Wikipedia. Boorama. Borama is also the home of the first Deaf school in Somalia Borama Deaf School trains and provides the deaf children with education that extends up to high school. Since the school is the first and the only one of its type, it has attracted a great number of deaf pupils from across the Somalia and even beyond.

Organizations

Somali Deaf Union / Midawga Dhagoolada Soomaliyeed. Somali Deaf Union [SODU] is an umbrella that unites Deaf people in Somalia. The establishment of schools for deaf children in Wajir in Kenya as well as in Boroma and Hargeisa in Somaliland and in Djibouti contributed significantly to the development of the language. However significant challenges were posed by the mobile population, the difficulty of involving parents, the use of several official written languages and the lack of knowledgeable af-Somali-speaking personnel.
